“Hello!” to those who also share paper notebooks and journaling tools. Show, tell, and share. (Updating: Nov 2024)
What have you used?
What are you using now?
TL;dr - Since late 2021, I’ve been compiling this list of notebooks and journals. Some I’ve tried, others have suggested. (See the snapshot list of paper planners and calendars over here.)
WHAT Folks have shared they used
In communities of cohort-based courses and workshops I’ve taken (Prolific Researcher Mentorship, Personal Knowledge Mastery, Linking Your Thinking, Write of Passage, Building a Second Brain), I’ve asked folks to share what notebooks and journals they use. During BASB’s Cohort 12 in late 2021, I started a “Paper People” interest group to connect with others where handwriting and keyboarding are part of their workflows. This list, updated through December 2023 (and periodically updated), is in alphabetical order. Enjoy!

Notebooks I Have Used and Use
I have been journaling since the early ‘80s, perhaps the natural evolution of having a diary during high school. And like many others, I have done (and occasionally still dabble) Morning Pages. I occasionally will doodle, mind map, and sketch, as well. Notebooks from the above list that continue to sit on my shelves and nightstand include - Clairefontaine, Exceed, Fabriano, Hahnemühle, Leuchtturm1917, Moleskine, Rhodia, Scribbles That Matter, and Staples composition notebooks. Recent additions include -
Daiso (random choices better in-person retail)
Maruman Mnemosyne (retailer Jet Pens)
— and a little something fun as a diary-lite
